Safe Access Plan

Oakcrest Elementary Parking Lot Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures

General Guidelines

  • Student safety is our top priority. Please review these procedures with every driver who may pick up or drop off students.

Designated Pick-Up and Drop-Off Areas

  • The designated pick-up and drop-off area runs across the front of the school (see attached map).
  • Drivers must remain in their vehicles while in the pick-up/drop-off lane.
  • Pull forward as far as possible before stopping to load or unload students.
  • Students should enter/exit vehicles curbside only.

Unauthorized Pick-Up and Drop-Off Areas

  • East Lane (Pull-Through): No drop-off or pick-up; vehicles must not stop for students to enter or exit.
  • Staff Parking Lot (South Lot): For staff only.
  • Front Parking Lot: Only for those who park in a stall and escort students across the crosswalk.

Drop-Off Procedures

  • Enter the drop-off lane single file.
  • Pull forward as far as possible, regardless of the weather.
  • Have your child ready to exit promptly.
  • If you need extra time, park in a stall.

Pick-Up Procedures

  • Pick-up lane extends south across the front and curves East (see map).
  • Early arrivals should wait until the lot opens at 3:35 PM (1:00 PM on early-out days).
  • Remain in line; do not stop in the through-lane. If no spot is available, circle around.
  • Students may not board vehicles in the through-lane.
  • If you arrive early for pickup and your student has not yet been released or is not available for pickup, you may be requested to circle around and get back in line for pick-up.

Pedestrian Safety

  • Use only designated crosswalks.
  • Do not send students across the parking lot or street outside of crosswalks.
  • Model safe crossing for all children.

Faculty and Bus Parking

  • The South lot is reserved for staff, preschool, and daycare buses only.
  • This lot will not be available.

Recommendations

  • Consider non-peak times: before 8:50 AM and after 3:40 PM (1:10 PM on early-out days).
  • Be patient and follow all procedures.
  • If you need more time, use a parking stall.
  • Encourage curbside exits for students.
  • Avoid cell phone use in the pick-up/drop-off zone.
  • Turn off your engine if waiting more than 10 seconds.
  • Be considerate of crossing guards and staff.
  • Start a walking or bike bus in your neighborhood.
